COMMUNICATION TECHNOLOGIES & I.T.

 

The following are Career and Technical Education classes offered in the Communication Technologies & I.T. pathway at Riverside High School. Some classes may not be offered every semester. Please check with your school counselor to register for these courses. Any of these classes fulfill a Career & Technical Education requirement. The Information Technology Department provides learning experiences that will assist students in developing computer technology, business skills, and facilitates on-the-job training.

 

Digitools (Digital Communication Tools)-College Credit available with a B grade or better

(District graduation requirement)

Grades: 9-12

Course Length: 1 Semester

 

Digitools is an exploratory course that introduces students to Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, digital image manipulation, scanning, digital cameras, HTML, web design, desktop publishing, Voice Recognition (Dragon Naturally Speaking), and web design. Students will learn Windows file management, produce business correspondence, and learn standard report formatting. An introduction to computer parts and modern network structure are covered. Emphasis is placed on accuracy development while creating, formatting and editing documents.


Digital Photography

Grades: 9-12

Prerequisite: None

Credit: .5

Course Length: 1 Semester

Class Fee: $15

 

Digital Photography is designed to develop skill using digital cameras and Adobe Photoshop Elements. Students will learn how to frame and shoot pictures and use and configure digital cameras. This course will teach basic photographic principles. Students will learn how to optimize and prepare pictures for the web and web photo albums as well as prepare pictures for print media and manipulation of pixels and print sizes. Students will use digital storage media and other electronic image gathering methods such as scanning. Students will take original pictures and create original artwork.


Yearbook/Publications

Grades: 11-12

Prerequisite: Instructor Permission

Credit: 1

Course Length: 2 Semesters

 

Through the use of various software, students will learn layout, design, graphics production, and image manipulation for the creation of the school’s yearbook.
