HEALTH & HUMAN SERVICES The following are Career and Technical Education classes
offered in the Health & Human Services pathway at FACSE courses help students identify what is important to their future and develop life skills that they will use continually in the years to come. These classes explore occupations in various fields of FACSE. In addition, FACSE as a profession endeavors to teach students skills regarding nutrition, healthy lifestyle choices, family and community interaction, child development, consumerism, career education, management skills, and leadership skills. Any of these classes fulfill a Career & Technical Education requirement. FCCLA (Family, Career, Community Leaders of America) is a component of FACSE. It is the national leadership program/club which students can join and participate in activities at local, state and national levels. There is a $20 membership fee.
Grades: 9-12 Prerequisite: None Credit: .5 Course Length: 1 semester Class Fee: $5.00 Cooking for...Hospitality industry...Employment in food service...Family Through investigation and discovery, in foods labs, students will understand that safe, healthy and appealing food preparation techniques are important for their personal, family and community lifestyles and can be applied to a culinary arts career.
Grades: 10-12 Prerequisite: At least 15 years old and a sophomore Credits: 3 Course Length: 2 Semesters (0 hour, 1st and 2nd period block) This course will provide an opportunity for cadets to explore careers in the firefighter and emergency medical services field. Emphasis will be placed on developing fundamental skills in the firefighting and emergency medical careers through practical hands-on experiences. In addition to studying fire science and basic life support, cadets will acquire skills like team building, decision making and problem solving. The program emphasizes self-discipline, commitment, teamwork and pride in work ethic. Fire Science Cadets will meet the same proficiency requirements set forth for the career and volunteer firefighters throughout our nation. Certification – Firefighter I - National standards from the (IFSTA) International Fire Service Training Association, (NFPA) National Fire Protection Association, and the Washington State Patrol Fire Protection Bureau Training (Firefighter I - Task Book). Cadets also receive certification in First Aid and CPR for Health Care Providers and Department of Natural Resources Wildland Firefighter II training. Firefighting/Fire Science II – Class is held at the Fire Station next to the High School, College credit available Grades: 11-12 Prerequisite: At least a junior and successful completion of Firefighting/Fire Science I Credits: 3 Course Length: 2 Semesters (0 hour, 1st and 2nd period block) This course will provide an opportunity for cadets to continue to explore careers in the firefighter and emergency medical services field. Emphasis will be placed on refining practical skills and introduction to leadership skills in the firefighting and emergency medical careers. Emphasis will be on development of company level officer skills in leadership, communications, command structure, team building, decision making and problem solving. The program will continue to emphasize self-discipline, commitment, teamwork and pride in work ethic. Fire Science II cadets will meet the same proficiency requirements set forth for the career and volunteer firefighters throughout our nation. Certification – Firefighter II - National standards from the (IFSTA) International Fire Service Training Association, and (NFPA) National Fire Protection Association, and the Washington State Patrol Fire Protection Bureau Training (Firefighter I - Task Book). Cadets also receive opportunities to study (EMT) Emergency Medical Technician and Department of Natural Resources Wildland Firefighter I training. Food & Fitness Grades: 9-12 Prerequisite: None Credit: .5 Course Length: 1 semester Class Fee: $5.00 Learn basic healthy lifestyle choices from food decisions to daily activity to increase calorie burning and encourage changes for today and the future (PE credit available for this class.) Health Grades: 9-12 Prerequisite: None Credit: .5 Course Length: 1 semester Family Health is a required class for graduation from
Grades: 11-12 Prerequisite: Pre-school staff approval Credit: 1 Course Length: 1 year Making a positive difference in the life of a child, students will learn to enrich and facilitate development in children age birth to six. The class provides hands-on experience for those interested in educational and health care professions. Students must be able to follow rules, guidelines and safety procedures without exception.
